New Dawn

Check out my friends bands "Sign me to Roadrunner Records" Page! They are pretty awesome and have just uploaded their new EP they recently recorded in good old London!

"New Dawn are a 4 piece metal band based in the West Midlands. The band are currently playing venues within the West Midlands to help build their fan base. The band have a mailing list system from which they provide a regular update of what the band is doing currently and informing them of any shows they are playing. The band has had a lot of success locally mainly in Stafford and Burton receiving great responses and filling venues. This has come from supporting the local bands within the area and then building up a following and now the band can headline these venues. The band wish to take this approach to new venues. Also the band were given the chance to play in Germany at the rock for friends gig which was a great experience for the band and went down really well. The band has also had experiences of playing outdoor festivals having played to around 800 people at the Burntwood unsigned festival."

On another topic I will be entering the studio next Saturday to start recording the drums for a couple of covers for my dissertation, I will post pictures and details of what I did soon after that.

Just FYI, this is the singer that I will be using for my recordings, any opinions on his voice?

DrummerTracks offer!

Hi,

Just thought I would let you know about an offer on at the moment, IKMultimedia are currently selling their product DrummerTracks for half price!

"Use promo code: "DRUMS" on the IK Webstore and get DrummerTracks for half the price. That's $15 / EUR 10 each. Use the promo code as many times as you want, but you must hurry, offer is only good until February 28, 2011."

"It’s like playing along to the drum tracks extracted from your favorite albums. A wide variety of styles ranging from Classic Rock to ProgRock to Blues, Jazz, Funk, Soul, Country and more are available. It’s total inspiration wherever you go. Fills and variations for verses, choruses and/or challenging jam sections happen automatically just like they would with a live drummer."

Now, there aren't any great Metal Drum tracks that I'm aware of but there are some pretty good Rock tracks that may come in handy when you feel like having a jam by yourself!

Welcome!

Hi!

So, this is my new blog, I've set this up to document my research and results for my University Dissertation! Essentially I will be testing techniques that I have acquired from different sources in order to find ways of producing high quality recordings specifically within the Metal Genre. These sources will include information from professional producers that I have been in contact with and also online articles, books, magazines etc.

I am in no way a professional merely a student, and I ask people to please give suggestions/comments on my posts as I am still learning! That is not to say I have not been recording for a while now, I started recording bands/musicians in my small home studio six years ago and have gained a fair bit of knowledge on the subject, as well as studying a Music Technology course at university for the past two and a half years!

Anyway recording starts next weekend with the drum tracks, I will post pictures and possibly audio samples once I have some!

I will soon post details of interesting techniques found so far, and links to useful sites! But for now that will have to wait until I have done some real work towards my dissertation!
